On February 27, “Svoboda” (Freedom) Square in the city of Ruse transformed into the stage for an exceptionally positive and entirely youth-led initiative. On the occasion of the upcoming Baba Marta holiday, a group of active young people organized and carried out a campaign to distribute martenitsas, bringing a festive mood to the heart of the city.

The main driving force behind the event was the enthusiasm of the youth themselves. They not only initiated the campaign but also actively participated in the preparation and the actual distribution of these symbols of spring. Their goal was clear: to preserve Bulgarian traditions and to demonstrate that the younger generation is a worthy guardian of our cultural heritage.

Each gifted martenitsa carried something more than just a wish for health and luck. Special QR codes were attached to them, leading to the website of the International Youth Center, thus merging tradition with technology in a modern way.

The reaction of the citizens and guests of Ruse was incredibly warm—smiles, expressions of gratitude, and genuine excitement accompanied the young volunteers throughout the day. Through their personal example and excellent communication skills, the participants proved that volunteering and active civic engagement are key to building a more cohesive community.

The initiative concluded with a sense of fulfillment and proof that when young people are given a space to express themselves, they create added value for the entire city.
